It is the end of #TrainingCareExcellence month! This month is all about focusing on the training that we provide in home care, ensuring all of our staff are empowered to start their rewarding career in care, ensuring our fantastic care team are experts in their field.
So, let’s recap!
What training is provided to start my career in home care?
Here at MCJA, we train you up and bring you up to speed with everything you would need to know in the world of home care. Our training sessions are conducted by our exceptional trainer, Ian, from eduk8. Ian has been working as a freelance trainer for many years, after retiring from mental health work. We teach all of our new starters everything they need to know about care, from the 6 C’s, to Manual Handling, to the Mental Capacity act.
We provide a mix of classroom learning, to practical learning to ensure all of our carers can apply the knowledge learnt in training to all of their care calls, providing exceptional service.
Following training, all of our staff members will also undertake at least 30 hours of shadowing with an experienced carer, to show them the ropes and ensure all of our carers are trained to the best standard possible.
Ian also provide refresher training to all of our care staff every 12 months, meaning all of our staff are kept up to speed with policies and regulations, promoting continuous professional development for all of our staff members.
I want to learn more about the trainer!
Ian is our fantastic trainer here at MCJA . So we asked him all about his journey as a trainer, and here is what he had to say: “After following my career in the construction and after financial crisis hit the industry in 2008, I decided to utilise my Psychology degree and follow my passion in mental health. I developed and delivered mental health training programmes, working in businesses, prisons, schools and with individuals.
This lead to reinforcing my love of training and working with people, with training carers becoming my main focus. I am now 70 and have retired from mental health work, but work full-time as a freelance trainer. I love working with people of all ages and backgrounds, and helping them realise their potential. I believe in life-long learning and therefore continue to pursue CPD in order to stay up to date, as well as broadening my knowledge base.”
Are there opportunities for training after induction?
We provide refresher training every 12 months for ALL of our care staff. This means that all of our staff are provided regular training, to ensure they always provide exceptional levels of care at all times to our incredible service users. This also means that carers are kept up to date with any changes in the home care industry, are reminded of important policies and regulations that they must abide by, and are also reminded of what procedures they should be using in specific situations.
After all, we care for over 500+ service users, meaning our carers need to understand a variety of different care needs, and ensure they are providing exceptional service according to each individual’s person-centred care plan.
Our goal as a care company is to promote the independence, dignity of our service users, and provide a range of support and companionship to each of our clients. So, with regular training for all of our care colleagues, we can say with confidence that we are the #1 home care company in Liverpool, providing excellence service, day-in, day-out.
