Today, our office team took part in Denim for Dementia for Alzheimer’s Society, raising an incredible total of £80!
As a domiciliary care company who offers specialist dementia care, this charity is incredibly close to our hearts. So, our staff members are wearing a piece of denim today, and making a small donation to the incredible charity. But, who are Alzheimer’s Society and what do they do?
All about Alzheimer’s Society
What they do
Alhzeimer’s Society is one of the biggest dementia charities in the UK, focusing on raising awareness for the different types of dementia, and specifically Alzheimer’s. This charity not only raise funds for ongoing dementia research, including research into new treatments and diagnostic procedures, but they also provide specialist dementia care to individual’s and their loved ones.
They have been providing dementia support for over 40 years, aiming to improve the lives of those suffering with dementia. Their 4 priorities are:
- Aiming to reach more people in the community who suffer with dementia, and are in need of support.
- Improving the accuracy and time-scale of diagnoses, ensuring diagnosis as early as possible.
- Making dementia a priority with decision-makers and raising awareness with the public.
- Increasing their impact and improving their understanding of the disease.
They also aim to achieve the following ambitions:
- Achieving early diagnosis for dementia.
- Ensuring no one suffers with dementia alone.
- Support is readily available from the day of diagnosis.
- Improving the priority of dementia research.
- New treatments are available to all dementia sufferers.
- The cost of dementia is affordable to all – with the average cost of dementia working out at £32,250 per person per year, often individuals and their families are having to pay for the whole cost of care by themselves. Alzheimer’s society are aiming to reduce this.
- Dementia is a priority for stakeholders and decision makers.
How does fundraising help, such as Denim for Dementia, and where does my donation go to?
There are a number of ways in which you can fundraise for Alzheimer’s Society, such as; a fun-run, bake sale, coffee morning, sponsored run/hike, sky-dive, or even take part in Denim for Dementia like we have! You can do all of this either on your own, or with a team such as your friends, family, or co-workers. But, how do your donations help?
Your donations can help support Alzheimer’s society by funding:
- Their Dementia Support Line, which is open 7 days a week for those struggling.
- Funding specialist dementia care for a family in need.
- Companion calls from their volunteers.
- Funding petitions to push the government to address ongoing concerns and issues with those who suffer with dementia.
- Funding life-changing research (Alzheimer’s Society invest £12.2 million each year into research!)
- Funding vital support online, over the phone, and in-person for those who need it.
