At MerseyCare Julie Ann, we provide reliable Respite care for individuals who require short or long-term relief from caregiving responsibilities for their loved ones.

We understand that sometimes everyone needs a break. This benefits both you and your family.

It’s good to take a respite break to preserve relationships.  For many families, becoming a carer for a parent or spouse can change the dynamics of the relationship.  The person providing the care in the relationship may feel tired, but guilty for feeling tired and not having the energy to be how they want to be, and the person receiving the care may feel they are a burden due to how tired you seem to be. It’s therefore important that everyone gets to take a regular break.

Why choose Respite Care

Familiar and Comfortable Environment

Receiving respite care at home means the person being cared for can stay in familiar surroundings with their own routines, belongings, and comforts. This reduces anxiety and confusion, especially for individuals with dementia or complex needs.

Personalised, One-to-One Support

Unlike in care homes where staff care for multiple residents, home-based respite care provides undivided attention. Carers focus solely on the individual’s needs and preferences, delivering more tailored and responsive care.

Minimises Disruption to Daily Life

Respite care at home maintains normal routines such as sleep, meals, activities, and medication schedules. This stability is particularly beneficial for individuals who may find change unsettling or stressful.

Supports Family Well-being Without Guilt

Family caregivers can take time to rest or attend to other responsibilities, knowing their loved one is safe, happy, and receiving quality care at home. This reduces burnout and provides peace of mind without the emotional strain of a care home stay.

Encourages Trust and Continuity of Care

Using respite care at home helps build familiarity with professional carers, making future care transitions smoother if longer-term support is needed. It also promotes trust and confidence for both the individual and their family.

Flexible and Scalable Support

Home respite care can be arranged for just a few hours, overnight stays, or several days offering flexibility to suit each family’s needs. It’s ideal for both planned breaks and emergencies.

More information and FAQs

Respite care is a short-term care service that gives regular caregivers a break, while ensuring the individual receiving care continues to get the support they need. It can be provided at home on a one-off or regular basis, from a few hours to several days or weeks.

Respite care supports both caregivers and those they care for. It’s ideal for family members who need time to rest, attend to personal matters, or go on holiday, while ensuring their loved one remains safe, cared for, and comfortable at home.

Respite care can cover a wide range of needs, including personal care (washing, dressing), medication management, meal preparation, companionship, mobility support, and help with household tasks. We tailor each visit to your routine and care requirements.

We can arrange respite care quickly and flexibly, often within 24 to 48 hours. Our team will assess your needs, discuss your preferences, and match you with a trained carer to ensure a seamless handover and continuity of care.

We take time to match carers based on personality and care needs, and we encourage an introductory visit where possible. Our carers are trained to provide reassurance and build trust, helping your loved one feel at ease while you take a well-earned break.

Care stories

My Mother is 96 years old, and she has 3 carers each day. There are two carers, Karen and Kaisia who are wonderful. They think outside the box and go that extra step. I live 200 miles away and it puts my mind at rest when I know they are taking care of her. My Mum also calls the office if she needs to talk to them, and she always has good things to say about Donna in particular. She is always helpful and knows what she’s doing. Keep up the good work MCJA.

Bob (Son of Service User)

I wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to Mary from MerseyCare Julie Ann for her care and warmth to my Dad. She has been caring for him for over 2 years. I went to see him on Friday afternoon unexpectedly just after lunch, and he had just finished eating when Mary had left him a couple of biscuits and a hot drink. It was all neatly laid out, and he was sitting comfortably and very contented. Knowing that he has such good care is hugely assuring to myself and my brother. Mary consistently goes over and above and in his words: “she is like part of the family”. In these really difficult times, and particularly for the care sector the work you do is really appreciated. It allows my Dad his independence and enables him to stay in his home – and it also has a positive impact on our wider family.

Denise (Daughter of Service User)

My mum has been having carers for the last couple of years from here. We are so happy with the care she has been given. She has 2 visits a day and we have had no problems at all. All of her carers are very supportive and helpful and do their job's amazingly.

Jackie (Daughter of Service User)

I just wanted to say how pleased we are with the carers from MerseyCare, the carer who have been supporting Mum over the last year. In particular her morning carer has gone above and beyond in the way she supports and cares for Mum and it's very much appreciated. Also, she has the ability to make Mum laugh which is so important in difficult circumstances.

Jan (Daughter of Service User)

A professional, empathic and well organised team of people who genuinely care for their clients. The admin and management team are communicative and extremely helpful and the carers are warm, kind and very efficient. I highly recommend for your loved one.
